This site is dedicated to the work and progress of The Elite Club as
they work on an update to the games Frontier: Elite 2 (FE2) and
Frontier: First Encounters (FFE). Originally released in 1995, the game is the latest in the Elite series of game which started 15 years ago with the ground breaking Elite on the BBC Micro. For various reasons FFE was released with a number of problems and some of these are still present today. It is unlikely to be possible to still buy the game since a legal battle between developer Frontier Developments Ltd and the publisher Gametek suspended production and sales of the game some time ago. There are still a few copies available on sale but they are few and far between. It is possible to download a copy of the game and there are a variety of sources for these downloads on the Internet. Following the resolution of the legal problems, David Braben of Frontier Developments Ltd is considering forming a group of people to take on the original source code to the FFE game and to resolve outstanding issues, give it a general face lift and ultimately release a version of the game which lives up to the original concept. Frontier Developments Ltd The Elite Club Until the Elite Club is finalised and work begins, the information here is mainly preparation and conjecture. The first task in preparation is to assemble a list of known issues that the the Elite Club can use a starting point. Initially both Frontier Elite 2 (FE2) and FFE sources will be made available to the club and new versions of these two game are expected to follow most likely as shareware releases. This site will be dedicated primarily to the FFE upgrade but will provide news on other Elite Club activities. |
