JJFFE is a project by John Jordan to
create a Win9x version of FFE. Using reverse engineered source code,
John has created a program that allows the original game to run under
the Win 9x OS. You will need the original game (floppy version - patched
to 1.06) in order to use this
update. The JJFFE project files are mirrored locally so visit the JJFFE section for more information and downloads. |

Millennium 3: Future's End (Anti-Matter Productions) |
|
Anti-Matter Productions, founded in 1997, are a small group of young game developers based in the United Kingdom. They are developing Millennium 3: Future's End, a space trading / combat / exploration game that pays tribute to the classic Elite and Frontier. Select from a varied fleet of ships, and explore the "real" galaxy, traversing full-scale solar systems with realistic Newtonian modelling of ships and objects. This galaxy will soon include millions of massively-detailed planets, formed from vast fractal landscapes. Millennium 3: Future's End is an open ended space trader/shooter/etc. in the style of Elite, currently in development by the independent group Anti-Matter Productions. It has been and is currently a non-commercial project. The game is being developed for the Win32/DirectX platform, and will currently run under Windows 95/98/ME and Windows 2000. It will not run under Windows NT 4. Some users have reported limited success in running M3 under Linux using WINE, but performance was extremely poor due to lack of support for hardware 3D acceleration. http://www.m3fe.com. |
| The Elite Project (TEP) |
|
The Elite Project is the planned unofficial 3rd sequel to the
legendary space game Elite. The second sequel, Frontier: First
Encounters (FFE) was released in 1995, but had bug problems and was
incomplete. It was withdrawn from sale a few months after release, but
still gained a devoted following. Fans of Elite were disappointed, FFE
has a lot of good features, but there is a feeling that it did not have
enough to make it a true classic in the same way as Elite was (and,
indeed is!). By the last few months of 1996 there was still no sign of a new
sequel, so a movement began on alt.fan.elite
for the fans of the game on the internet to get together and create
their own sequel. This movement gathered momentum, and became known as
the 'Elite Project.' The Project has a number of fans of Elite, who all
contribute ideas and things to the Project. Each person on the team are
working on various tasks, and the idea is to collect all of the material
together to make the game. |
| glElite |
|
While original plan was to create OpenGL version of Elite, current
development is focused on making modular, generic open source space-role-playing
framework. Teddy is project name for the framework. glElite is project
name for the space game of original idea.
The glElite team is accepting new members. |
| Galileo |
|
The Galileo Project is run by an international development team,
dedicated to producing a multiplayer, internet-based space game, along
the lines of the Elite series of games. We are a purely
volunteer-based organisation, and anybody (yes, that means you)
can join. In 1996, the Galileo Project was tentatively born at the University of Cambridge, England. It's aim was simple: write a game which combines the ingredients which made Elite so successful with up-to-date technology and further innovation. Although it would be recognisable to those who had played I>Elite, it would offer much much more, taking full advantage of recent advances in both communications and personal computers - specifically, it would offer an international multiplayer environment using the medium of the Internet. Galileo will be a game set in space, in which the player will be able to make money and perform many other everyday tasks. It will also have a plot with a specific aim, but all these will be merely superficial similarities to the Elite series of games. The game environment will be far richer; one of the most important differences being that the player is not just a 'ship' - as in FFE - but a person, who can get out of their ship, rent and program other ships, walk around space stations and planets, hire or be hired by other players plus much more. The major element, however, which redefines the whole game, and in our opinion, makes it infinitely more interesting and varied than any similar game to date is the multiplayer environment. This adds a powerful form of flexibility in the only way currently possible; by adding real people. The seemingly 'magical' factor in this is that much of the benefit would be attained at little or no effort on our parts, as once the basic game takes shape, people playing it will shape the Galileo universe themselves and create a society within the game. We are sure that this emphasis on people, rather than ships or technology or money, will guarantee the game's success. http://www.galileo-projects.org/galileo/about.asp Usenet alt.games.galileo |

| Elite Platinum |
|
I am now about to use a word that I take very seriously: BRILLIANT! That
word describes a new attempt at a revision of the original Elite quite
well. The graphics are exactly the way they should be for a game that
brings back the nostalgia of the original Elite, though they are updated
for the latest video technology. Not only that, but Christian Meyer
gives us the added realism of star systems with multiple planets! Some
systems have up to 7 planets with many of them having space stations
orbiting them!
This game was originally being produced by a team of two brilliant programmers, Jens Barleau and Christian Meyer. Unfortunately, Jens had to leave the project as many real world things kept him from working on the game. As he was also the webmaster for the project, Elite Platinum was about to be without a home. I couldn't let this happen and am more than willing to give Christian the space to upload the game and its revisions. http://www.alioth.net/%7Emufossa/Elite/Platinum/platinum.html [offline]

| Mostly Harmless |
|
The Mostly Harmless project aims to create a clone of the classic 1980s
video game Elite. Elite was originally written by Ian Bell and David
Braben for the BBC B. In the eighties and early nineties it was ported
to most platforms. The most recent version for the PC, Elite Plus, was
published in 1991. Although Elite Plus is a fine game that many people
still enjoy playing, it doesn't run well on modern PCs and the low
resolution graphics leave a little to be desired.
Mostly Harmless is a new version of Elite for the PC. It tries not to change the Elite formula in any way that will alter the game-play. It will just be a better Elite. Mostly Harmless will not include features from Frontier or Frontier First Encounters. The program and associated developement software are distributed for free and the source code is also available. |
| Elite TournAmenT |
|
Elite TournAmenT is a multiplayer space combat game, based on the games Elite, Frontier and First Encounters, made by Ian Bell, David Braben and Frontier Ltd. The idea of the game is to compete, as a member of a clan, to destroy as many of your real-life opponents as you possibly can. The more kills you make, the more upgrades or ships you can afford, and the more specialized equipment your clan can buy. As you progress through the game, your ranking will increase as you gain kills, both in the Elite TournAmenT leaderboard system, and in your clan itself. There is no trading system, instead all purchases are made using your kills total. The entire game is internet based only. All purchases are dealt with via our server, all marches occur on line, all missions and challenges are placed on the Elite TournAmenT ebbs system. There is no cheating, because if you cheat you account is wiped. The game system is ran by the Elite TournAmenT Council Clan. These members are from all over the community, and decide on upgrades, features and account problems personally. The server takes care of the rest of the automated tasks. |
| Starflight 2000 |
|
Star Flight 2000 will be EdzUp's first attempt at a Elite style 3D game, using the Dark Basic programming language we have created a small sample of what sort of galaxy you will be participating in (there will be an option to go to other galaxies). |
| GOGL |
|
Welcome to droid development. We are a small team of developers dedicated to making a space game and a highly configurable space game engine with a built-in scripting language. The main influence has been drawn from the classic space epic Elite. Authored by the legendary duo Ian Bell and David Braben. GOGL was started as a side project by programmer Gary Whitehead, who is still the driving force behind engine development. Since an additional development kit has evolved, where you can build your own scenario... Be it an elite style game, or simply a shoot'em'up - it's up to you.
